If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

"If you know..." here more accurately can be translated, or understood as, "since you know...".
See Ephesians 2:10. We are created in Christ Jesus for good works.
See 1 Cor 1:30. Jesus is our righteousness and sanctification and redemption. We have these because of Him.
The person who is consistent in his practice of righteousness in tough times give good evidence that he is born again.
