1 Peter 1:2 - Additional Comments

God knew ahead of time ("foreknowledge") who would become a Christian. He had a plan long before any of us existed. We are "elected" ("chosen") because of this foreknowledge. It is as if our Christianity pre-existed our existence (see John 3:18). Compare to John 15:16 and Romans 9:15-16.
The power of the Spirit in them is what sets them apart, what sanctifies them, what makes them different than those of the world.
Their purpose as Christians is both to obey God and to partake of the sufferings of Jesus.
The sprinkling of the blood refers to the blood of the sacrificed lamb for the sins of the people (Lev 1:5,11, 16:3-19).
Peter greets them, wishing grace (God's goodness) and peace (perfected contentment - Phil 4:6-7,11).
What a great picture of the trinity in this verse - God elected us and draws to Himself, Jesus gave His blood for us, and the Holy Spirit sanctifies us.
