1 Peter 2:17 - Additional Comments

"Honor" means to give value to; to esteem or respect. We are to give honor to all people, evevn those who do not deserve it - this is unconditional. But of particular value, men are to honor their wives (see 3:7). Men are to show their wives they are of great value to them. Much of a wife's self esteem and value is derived from whether their husband shows them honor and value.
We are to give special preference to the brotherhood, to those of the faith. Yes, we are to treat them differently.
We are to fear God, i.e. we are to marvel at Him, to be afraid of Him, to be in awe of Him, to be alarmed by Him. It is so easy these days to treat God casually, but our heart should race in His presence, as it might to meet someone famous or of high position. Picture receiving an invitation to have a special meeting with a famous person you highly respect. Our fear of God should go way past that feeling, that fear.
Honor the king - give value and esteem to those in high office (see vss 13-14).
