By addressing them as beloved Peter is showing tenderness and compassion to those under persecution for Christ. This may be the time when Christians appear the most beautiful to other Christians as when they suffer for standing for Christ.
Do not think that it is strange if you get persecuted for Christ. Don't be surprised by it. You have been forewarned.

The greatest challenge we as Christians is probably to maintain a good attitude and patience under the persecution we get just from being a Christian, from standing up for Christ. And yet this is necessary both to honor Christ and for our own comfort. In John 17:6 Jesus said that He manifested God to the world, and we are to do the same.
