It appears Eli did not hear what the petition was, yet he, probably through the Holy Spirit, told Hannah she would get her request.
How many years had she travelled here (see vs 7), and how many times had she wept here, before God granted her request? I would assume because of her misery that yearly she had been asking for the same thing. Maybe it was not until now that she was willing to give the child back to the Lord (vs 11). Sometimes God waits to grant a petition because he is working on character.
