Please don’t sin against God by eating meat with the blood still in it.’"    And so they did. That night each soldier, one after another, led his animal there to be butchered.

If Saul was a wise ruler, he might have realized that his poor decision was driving the people to act the way they did.
The stone was to be used to slaughter the animals on it.
