And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.

Paul has the right perspective - his life is given for others. This means that any suffering he endures, it is so others may be saved or consoled. This is why Paul was able to endure the sufferings.
Interestingly, whether Paul is suffering or being consoled, it is all for the same purpose - the salvation and consolation of others.
