Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.

The punishment already given to this man, who was grieving them (vs 5), was sufficient, and Paul is saying now it was time to forgive him, even to comfort him (vs 7), even to show him their love for him (vs 8). And as result of their forgiveness, Paul too would forgive this man (vs 10). Iwthout this forgiveness Satan might get a foothold, for he is clever (vs 11).
