2 Peter 1:16 - Additional Comments

These are not fables, nor a clever lie - these are truth (vs 12). It was God who designed it, and it was by the power and presence of Jesus that Peter tells of. And by what authority, but what validity? Peter was there. He was an eyewitness - He saw the majesty of Jesus, not only throughout Jesus' ministry, but in particular at the transfiguration (vs 18, Matt 17:1-8), when Peter heard this proclamation from God. (Note God also declared this at Jesus' baptism - Matt 3:13-17). What was this majesty of Jesus? Verse 17 - His glory and honor that He had received from God. And God confirmed this by his spoken word. Peter heard this word. It was from God in heaven (vs 18).
