Amos 4:6 - Additional Comments

God does so many things to draw us nigh unto Him (KJV - Heb 7:19).
" In chapters 1-2 we saw how God was patient with sin 3, no 4 times. Then, God brought judgment.
" Here, God brought famine to draw them back to God.
" In verses 7 and 8, some He gave rain to, and some He did not.
" In verse 9 He caused various problems with their harvests.
" In verse 10, God sent a plague, and caused military failures.
" In verse 11, they lost battles in the manner of Sodom and Gomorrah.
All these things, and yet Israel did not return to God!
He does things, some we perceive as "good", and some we perceive as "bad", all for the purpose of Him drawing us to Himself. Israel ignored God's prodding. May we respond to God's prodding, and do what He loves - us drawing close to Him.
Otherwise, we have God's warning in verse 12 - "Prepare to meet you God!" We will notice God one way or another, sooner or later. We need to make a choice today for it to be on good terms, rather than what Israel had to face.
