Deuteronomy 6:2 - Additional Comments

God gave them His laws not only so that they would obey them, but also so that they would teach them to their children so they also would obey. (See also Deut 4:9-14.)
When are you to obey? All the days of your life. There is no "down time", no time to "take a break", no allowance for "ups and downs". God wants obedience all the time, every day, all your life. What causes ups and downs? Why do people have periods where their relationship with God is better than other times? What prevents "downs", so we can have consistent "ups"? Is this possible?
We talk about finishing strong. Yet, the real challenge is to always be strong. We shouldn't need to "get back on track", because we should not get off the track.
Here is one of the benefits of obedience by you and your descendents -- longer life. Sin can cause illness (James 5:15-16, Heb 12:13).
