We are made up of the spirit, soul, and body (1 Thess 5:23). In the inner man we have our spirit and soul.
2 Cor 4:16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.
In life, we get to the point where there is nothing we can do about it - as we age, we deteriorate. Our bodies fade away.
Psalms 103:15 As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
Psalms 103:16 When the wind has passed over it, it is no more, And its place acknowledges it no longer.
Yet, with God, our soul and spirit can be getting stronger, more enriched, fresher. This was Paul's prayer, that based on God's glorious riches, He would continuously be building our inner person.
So, whenever we may be discouraged by the aging process taking place in our body, we should be encouraged that at the same time God is building in us great strength, great wisdom, great character. The more we allow God to control our lives, the more opportunity and the more freedom He has to built these in us.
