Ephesians 6:3 - Additional Comments

A long and successful life is promised to those who obey their parents. The alternative, disobedience to parents, would bring shorter life and trouble in life.
The principle here is not that long life and prosperity are guaranteed, but that obedience to parents promotes that, and disobedience detracts from that.
Note that we find both eternal and temporal results in the promises of God when we follow His laws. Here we have a promise to receive temporal benefit. This also tells us that it is okay to have earthly blessings in addition to heavenly blessings.
