Exodus 1:15 - Additional Comments
While "Israelites" points back to Jacob, aka Israel, "Hebrews" goes back to Abraham or possibly earlier, but it is first identified with Abraham. So, as "Israelites" they are the children of Israel, as "Hebrews" they are children of Abraham (Gen 14:13).
These midwives were Egyptian women that served the Hebrews. The bravery and God-honoring acts of the midwives are remembered as we see there names listed in the story (as compared to Pharaoh, whose name is not!).
