Genesis 12:12 - Additional Comments
What?! Didn't God give Abram great promises, about him becoming a great nation, and the people of the earth would be blessed by him (vss 1-3)? He traveled as God had asked him, yet now he fears he will be killed. Like all of us, our trust in God is not full and complete, yet we should see by this example that we can fully and completely rely on God. God promises it!
- Jer 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
- Phil 1:6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
- Phil 2:13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
Abraham would recover, and become, as God states, "the man of faith" (Gal 3:9, NIV). What will God claim about you? That you believed God, or that you took the step of faith and trusted Him (see notes on vs 4)?
Remember, if God take something good out, it will be replaced by something better. We can trust Him for that. It may not be fun, and we may not know why. It may not even be primarily for our own benefit! God's knows what our ultimate needs are, much better than we do ourselves. And, He knows the needs around us. I look forward to what God has in store for me and through me!
