Hebrews 12:2 - Additional Comments

If we are overweight, and compare ourselves to a 500 pound man, we look pretty good! We need to compare ourselves against the right standard, If we are in sin, comparing ourselves to those deep in sin, we look pretty good! We need to look at Jesus for the standard. (See notes on Matt 14:30.)
The joy set before Him is seeing people being born again. This is why He endured the cross and the shame of it. His joy is our salvation. His joy is seeing us succeed. May we have this same joy when we see others get to know Jesus!
Notice Jesus is the author of our faith. Your faith is a gift from Jesus. He considered it, designed it, created it, and provided it to us. We accept the gift of faith, as we accept the gift of eternal life, from Jesus. Then, the faith in us, Jesus finishes, He perfects, He molds to become what He would have it to be. Don't ever think that you are the author or the faith you have in Jesus.
