Hebrews 12:3 - Additional Comments
Having become a Christian does not mean we have arrived (as far as who we are to be, not as far as eternal life), it only allows us to be in the race. Note that we can become fatigued and discouraged in the race. The race is not easy - it is a challenge. But, God has allowed us to be in the race!
Not only did Jesus mark out our road for us, but we can look at Him for strength as we run, seeing how He handled the fatigue along the way. Jesus not only gives us the example about how to run, but guarantees that no obstacle will confront us that we cannot overcome, and that Jesus would provide the means to conquer any obstacle we do confront (1 Cor 10:13). We can finish the race, Jesus guarantees we can, if we do not become weary and give up.
As we take each turn in the road, we don't know what obstacles we will encounter, but we can be confident Jesus is running with us to help us conquer it.
Note that Jesus, while having the power to conquer or destroy those confronting Him, merely endured the hostility, rather than destroy the purveyors of the hostility.
Jesus patience was invincible. Nothing could conquer it. What shape is yours in? What are the cracks in your patience? Be committed to be like Jesus, with invincible patience. How did He do it? It was the joy set before Him (vs 2).
Note we are to consider, think about, Jesus. We are to meditate on Him. The more we think of Him and His reaction to others, to more we avoid weariness and discouragement.
