Hosea 4:6

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

People are destroyed for lack of knowledge, and this knowledge begins with the fear of the Lord - Prov 1:7, and the notes on that verse - "You won't have a proper view of any field of study until you first have a relationship with God, or you will not see things as they truly are."
Rejecting knowledge first comes with a rejection of God. The result? God will reject them and their children.
