James 5:16 - Additional Comments

Verses 15 and 16 say that some illness may be as a result of sin. We see this verse saying confession and prayer may bring physical healing. And this prayer is not the prayer of the one afflicted - this is the prayer of a righteous man. It is fervent prayer, and effective (causes the desired results). There is much to be gained by the fervent, effective prayer of a man who is righteous. If you have a good relationship with God, this says your fervent prayer can product much results.
This means one of the primary prayers in times of sickness should be the confession and pardon of sin. Instead of prayer for physical healing, prayer for spiritual healing should be our first petitions. If sin caused the affliction, confession and repentance should remove it. Without confession and repentance, that particular sickness likely cannot be healed.
