And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.

Jesus wanted to make clear it is a resurrection from the dead, and not a healing of a sickness. If He were there, they probably would have only seen the later.
Some may ask of God why He was not there when they needed Him, yet in His perfect will He works (i.e. is located) where appropriate. Here his delay was days, but He may delay for years for a purpose.
