It was a custom with the Jews religiously to observe the approach of the Passover thirty days before, with some sort of solemnity. So, long before the holiday, they repaired the roads, mended bridges, if there was occasion, and discoursed of the Passover and the institution of it.
With the coming of the Passover, the people there probably knew Jesus would be returning to Jerusalem. They therefore may have been more attentive to Him, knowing He would not be in that area much longer.
