Luke 5:3 - Additional Comments

This was not a fancy church, but the crowds were enthralled. They wanted to hear the word of God.
Jesus must have had a strong and clear voice, to preach from a boat to the crowds.
This was not the first time we see Simon with Jesus - Andrew had been following Jesus, and introduced Simon to Jesus (and Jesus then gave Simon the name of Cephas) - John 1:35-42. Simon would get to know Jesus in a new way this day, placing aside his fishing business to follow Jesus (vs 11).
Note that Jesus did not command to be put out on the boat, but He asked. Simon graciously did what Jesus asked him to do - the first of many!
Note also that we do not see Jesus asking to board the boat. Maybe that did not seem an intrusion to the fishermen.
