Have you ever seen someone doing something, watching with disdain, then finding yourself doing the very same thing shortly after?
Read Matt 7:3-5 regarding the plank/log in your eye vs the speck in your brother's eye.
Again, we should be afraid of ourselves, and how easily we can fall into sin. The best ways to protect ourselves? Stay away from things that draw us to sin. Don't play with fire. Also, envision ahead of time how you will react in certain circumstances.
