Mark 14:32 - Additional Comments

Gethsemane is only mentioned here and in Matt 26:36. It was a garden across the Kidron Valley on the Mount of Olives, a mile-long ridge paralleling the eastern part of Jerusalem. The name Gethsemane (Hebrew gat shemanim, "oil press") suggests that the garden was a grove of olive trees in which was located an oil press.
Note that the apostles went with him after the Passover meal up to this area on the Mount of Olives. Jesus must have told them where they were going, for Judas had slipped away from them, and yet knew where they were (see vs 43).
