Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

Mark 7:5 - Additional Comments

Note that they were not being condemned for violating Scripture, the laws of God, but the tradition of the elders, the laws of men.
Verse 2 says they were not there to learn or teach, but to condemn, to find fault. They probably gleefully were pointing out the violations to Jesus.
