Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

Matthew 17:4 - Additional Comments

How did Peter know what the other 2 were Moses and Elijah? It certainly was not that he recognized them. So if must have been based on the conversation. How I would have loved to have heard that conversation, of just to know what was said!
Note, as is typical of Peter, his good will and enthusiasm often gets ahead of good discretion and discerning.
