Matthew 26:51 - Additional Comments

John 18:10 identifies Peter as the one who chopped off the ear of the servant of the high priest, whom John also identifies as Malchus. Luke (the physician!) is the only gospel writer that mentions the healing of the ear (Luke 22:50-51).
Peter was probably aiming for the servant's head - only God's providence prevented Peter from becoming a murderer. This was not in God's plan for the events of the Passion Week.
