Six times in these three verses (7-9) we see who is the owner and author the the scriptures - the LORD. This is the word Yahweh, or Jehovah, the name the was unpronouncable by the Jews. Yahweh is the owner and author of the Bible. Mentioned here are 6 things contained in the Bible - the law, the testimony, the statutes, the commandments, the fear, and the judgments of the Lord.
God's creation may have been sufficient for man before the fall. With the fall, we needed something more. With His creation our spirit may be lifted, but only with knowledge of the direct revleation can our soul be saved. And in this, it is perfect. The number one goal of Scripture is to bring us into a relationship with God. In that effort, in that work, it could not be written any better, for it has been written with perfection for this task.
The interesting thing is that we never get to anything that is truly perfect. Nothing in life is perfect. Nothing, that is, except this one thing - God's word to convert our soul. Hold it in your hand. Look at it with awe. It is perfect.
The Hebrew word for perfect means "without blemish, complete, full, perfect, sincere, sound, without spot, undefiled, upright, whole." Yes, it truly is perfect to convert our soul. No wonder the psalmist says "I opened my mouth and panted, For I longed for Your commandments." (Psalm 119:131). I think you don't realize, I think I don't realize, what we truly have here.
The word "sure" here means "believable, established, trustworthy, always faithful, verified". It is like a foundation that is always there. What is always and completely trustworthy? Well, the earth below us, the Sun, the moon, the stars, the atmosphere on the earth. There is never a doubt as to their continued presence. In the same way, the Bible is sure - it is always and completely trustworthy, just as much as the earth will be there beneath our feet. This is how much you can rely on the word of God. Do you doubt that the earth will be there below you and the sun and moon above you. No. You have perfect trust in that. In the same way, you should have perfect trust in the word of God. That means when God says something in his word, it is completely and unmistakably true. Therefore, you, as you study it, align your thoughts and understanding of the world around you more and more closer to reality and truth. The more you know the word, the wiser you are.
