Revelation 21:2 - Additional Comments

"And I saw" - John on Patmos. God gave him a vision and explanation of what was to come, and John wrote it down as the Spirit inspired him. He was a witness to the final scene which ushers in eternity.
The Word tells us what God has prepared for us - it's far more than we realize. 1 Cor 2:9 "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him."
Why Jerusalem? God created us for fellowship; sin broke that intimate fellowship. Jerusalem housed the temple, and the purpose of the temple was for God to dwell among men. See Exo 25:8, Heb 12:22. Now we are the temple, and we will dwell in the New Jerusalem, fellowshipping with God (see vs 3).
