Romans 12:3 - Additional Comments

Right after we are told to renew our minds, the first thing presented is the concept of avoiding arrogance.
Paul is telling us that we should especially not be arrogant about our faith and our walk with God, and the gifts for ministry we have received from God (vss 4-8). For what we have, we have received from God, by the grace of God.
So, we are given this challenge... but, how do we recognize when we are failing in this area? I think we can easily miss this, unless we purposely stop and examine ourselves, our motives, and our actions. Looking at each, does it point to someone who is thinking too highly of himself, or to someone who has the right perspective?
What other areas besides faith might we fall into the trap of arrogance? Intellectually, athletically, business success, family success, looks, home, cars, ... the list goes on. It is great to be proud of accomplishments, but the warning is to be careful not to think to highly of yourself. Ha, it is even compared to drunkenness - thinking too highly is like being drunk, in so many ways. It's hard to see it in ourselves, and it's so hard to see the world properly in that state. We are to be sober, to be wise, in our perspective of ourself and others.
For (1 Cor 4:7), what do you have that you've not received? But if you received it, why do you boast as if you've not received it?
