Romans 15:18 - Additional Comments

Here Paul gives some information about he has accomplished. This is not vanity here, because he acknowledges it is fully from God (vs 19 - "by the power of the Spirit of God"), and he does it to glorify God, and not himself - that is the key difference. If only we could give our yearly self-appraisal at work in the same way - "Here is what God has done through me this year!" Paul tells us in 1 Cor 1:31 that when we glory, we are to glory in the Lord, as we see in Psalm 115:1. We are not to seek glory for ourselves, even though we enjoy praise. It is so difficult not to want accolades. Most of us don't really get them very often, and when we do we really enjoy them. Whenever we hear a compliment, we should think look what God has done through me, rather than what I have done (for, what do you have that you did not receive? 1 Cor 4:7).
