Matthew 2:22 - Additional Comments

See notes on Herod in Acts 12:1 regarding Archelaus. Archelaus had a reputation for cruelty, and like his father, had ordered a massacre. He was removed from office in A.D. 6.
This verse shows the reason that, even though Joseph and Mary were from Bethlehem, they moved to Nazareth, where Jesus grew up. They headed north, ruled by Herod Antipas, who was apparently not a threat to Joseph's family.
It is unclear which specific prophesy in the O.T. this references.
See the note on verse 1:24, regarding Joseph's obedience. Here we see once again his obedience. Joseph not only obeyed, he obeyed consistently over time. We need to maintain a strong relationship with God - we should not have periods of obedience, and periods where we struggle. The only way to do this is regular and valuable time with God.
